Sheltered housing
MHA owns and manages 1,459 sheltered homes (as at March 2009). These properties are primarily for older people who want to live independently in the privacy of their own homes, but with the security of knowing that there are people on hand to help in an emergency.
All of MHA’s sheltered housing is in West Dorset, and was transferred from West Dorset District Council in 1993.
The sheltered housing service is provided under a Supporting People contract, with Dorset Supporting People authority.
We have a wide range of sheltered housing. Most is in the form of flats or bungalows, with one or two bedrooms. We also have a few studio flats and houses. The breakdown by size is:
25 x bedsitters
1,096 x 1 beds
315 x 2 beds
23 x 3 beds.
All of our sheltered properties have an emergency call system which is linked to Careline. Residents can contact our sheltered housing or Careline staff 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Many schemes have a communal room (32 in all), available for residents to use for socialising and activities. Some also have guest rooms, available for residents’ families to stay, for a small charge. Most schemes have gardens or other outside areas for residents to enjoy.
Some of our sheltered housing is situated close to town centres, within easy walking reach of shops, buses and local facilities. Other schemes are set in peaceful, rural locations in villages throughout West Dorset.
