Sheltered housing services available

The support available to residents in sheltered housing is provided in accordance with a Supporting People contract with Dorset County Council. The support service is designed to help you develop or maintain your independence, thus preventing the loss of your home or tenancy and/or otherwise unnecessary use of more institutionalised forms of care.

The sheltered housing service may include any of the following:

•    Help with setting up and managing your home or tenancy
•    Help with finding other accommodation (where required)
•    Help with maintaining or developing domestic or life skills
•    Help with managing finances, paying bills and/or claiming benefits
•    Help with personal safety and security
•    Help with maintaining the safety and security of your home, including help with any neighbour problems
•    Advice on avoiding or minimising hazards
•    Advice and support on arranging repairs and maintenance
•    Help with establishing social or family contacts, where you want this
•    Help with taking part in social activities
•    Help to access local community organisations or other services
•    Help to access training, work experience or employment opportunities
•    Liaison with other agencies or services on your behalf
•    Provision of emotional support
•    Monitoring your health and wellbeing.

This list is not exhaustive. The support you receive will depend on your needs and wishes, and will be agreed with you and set out in a support plan.

The service does not include nursing or personal care, cleaning within your home, administering medicines, collecting your pension, handling your money or doing your shopping. However, as a short term measure, in an emergency situation where you have no other help available to you, we may be able to help with things like collecting a prescription or ensuring you have essential food supplies.

The services you receive will generally be provided by our sheltered housing staff, who can visit you at home up to 5 times a week. Some services may be provided by other Magna staff, such as our money matters adviser or housing officers »
