Magna helping more local children
7/1/2009
Magna Housing Association (MHA) resident representatives and staff presented a cheque to Life Education Wessex this week, accompanied by children from the Prince of Wales First School in Dorchester.
The £3,713 donation comes from MHA’s Community Initiative Fund and this is the third year running that money has been given to Dorset’s health promoting charity.
MHA resident representative and chairman of one of three resident panels, Rosemary Nelson, commented, “Life Education Wessex is a fantastic charity and we are always happy to support them if we can. Our Community Initiative Fund assists many community projects and local charities throughout the year and we are always on the look out for more nominations.”
Life Education Wessex offers health and drug education to children between the ages of 3 and 11 across Dorset, Somerset and Devon. The charity uses a variety of educational programmes, ably assisted by ‘Harold’ the Giraffe to make learning fun and memorable. Corporate development fundraiser for Life Education, Lorraine Hewitt, adds, “We are extremely grateful to Magna Housing Association and the residents’ panels for this very generous donation. We currently do not receive any statutory funding and so have to rely very much on the support of the local community and charitable donations. This funding will make a real difference, allowing us to continue our vital work.”
